FedExForum

Memphis may be best known for its blues and barbecue music scene, but sports should also come to mind as part of Memphis life. Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum attracts one of the most passionate fan bases in NBA basketball, and every time a game kicks off, there’s an energized atmosphere in Memphis known as Grizz Nation that makes this city’s energy palpable!

FedExForum was designed by the architects behind the Denver Nuggets arena to pay tribute to Memphis’ rich musical legacy, hosting top artists such as Alicia Keys, Cher, Luke Combs, and The Foo Fighters, among many others.

The venue also serves as a showcase for the city’s foodie culture. There are multiple restaurants and bars within its premises – Opus, Bud Light Bar, Horseshoe Club, and Rendezvous BBQ are some notable ones – along with many concession stands offering tasty treats such as fried catfish sandwiches, chicken sliders or even jumbo hotdogs!

Although the Memphis Grizzlies have yet to win an NBA championship, their young talent looks poised for greatness during the 2022-23 season. Led by superstar players Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks, many expect them to challenge for the championship next year, and fans are already eagerly awaiting when their team hits its stride in league play.

Downtown Memphis was home to this venue, built for $250 million and opened for business in September 2004. It is owned by the City of Memphis, with FedEx serving as its naming rights sponsor. It is also home to the University of Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team, who hold their March Madness games there.

The arena is conveniently situated near hotels and restaurants, providing fans with numerous public transportation options. A roundtrip express shuttle bus allows fans to save money when purchasing tickets; additionally, Mata transit lines, including the Main Street Line, Riverside Line, and Madison Avenue Line, all stop near it.

FedExForum features a variety of seating options designed to meet every fan’s needs, as well as an expansive retractable roof that enables outdoor concerts in good weather conditions. In addition, there’s also an advanced sound system and HD TVs onsite.

Beale Street

Beale Street was an active commercial district during the 19th century, filled with taverns, lounges, theaters, and dance halls that offered everything from live performances to cabaret shows and cabaret nights. Its distinctive musical sound quickly draws visitors from around the region, eventually becoming a tourist destination known as the “Home of the Blues.” It is now designated a National Historic Landmark and is legal for drinking on its streets.

In 1982, Memphis hired Elkington & Keltner as a private firm to redevelop and manage Beale Street. Under their direction, Beale Street transformed into a cultural center focusing on preserving heritage while drawing visitors downtown for entertainment; their plans also included creating a music museum as part of this endeavor. Furthermore, an act of Congress designated Beale Street an official home of blues music in 1977.

Just a few years ago, the Memphis Grizzlies returned to the playoffs after not competing since 2000 – they finished with 56 wins and were widely considered one of the NBA’s elite teams. With Ja Morant on board, the Grizzlies may go even farther this season.

The Memphis Grizzlies will host the Oklahoma City Thunder at FedExForum for their next game Thursday. They will feature Marc Gasol and Damon Stoudamire as key returnees while replacing key veterans Tyus Jones and Dillon Brooks with younger ones.

This season, the Grizzlies will don a uniform design that blends styles from their Vancouver and modern eras. Their Beale Street blue alternate uniform features their player names arranged in an orderly; primary uniforms feature radial arches. Their logo has also been updated to feature a more stoic bear head.

Beale Street offers visitors an excellent opportunity to experience Memphis’ rich music and culinary heritage. A popular stop along this strip is the Withers Collection Museum & Gallery, home to over 1.8 million images taken by Memphis photographer Ernest C. Withers; also, various exhibits showcase other aspects of Memphis art and culture.
